Dear Steve Jobs

with 6 comments

You were without a doubt the most fascinating, inspiring, life changing and iconoclastic person I knew. One of my few idols*. I will miss you and your insightful view and contribution to my world. I hope the DNA of your legacies like Apple and Pixar (through Disney), will continue to entertain, simplify, make my life easier and more enjoyable.

I wished your candle that burnt twice as bright, burnt twice as long.

You’re a reminder that I don’t do enough with the life I have left, now more so with your death.

As an aside, I’d like to share this image of Steve Jobs. I’ve held onto this picture from the first day I glanced on it. It captured my attention on so many levels; the simplicity in the portrait, the clutter free environment, an individual who clearly surrounded himself that was the most important things in his life at the time.

As far as I can remember, it was taken after Steve quit Apple in 1985 and it was taken by a female photographer. If I could go into greater detail, I would credit her for this image.

This picture has resided in my picture folder by itself; waiting for me to do something with it. Until today, I would just open and stare at it for a moments, I’d remind myself of a few things and then carry on with whatever I was doing on my computer.

This image means a lot to me; it says so much to me. Today I just want to share it.

* The first person I idolised was Bruce Lee.

Who We Are – The Book.

Now I have finished my MA and my formal education, I now have more time for working on this blog and really moving forward with developing and marketing my identity online. One small step in that process is to actually start selling my photography online. This is not to say I haven’t already, I just haven’t done so in a formal manner (basic things like a shopping basket on my portfolio website for example). So again there are a few more changes in the pipeline.  To begin then, I very happy to present the book from my latest project: ‘Who We Are’.

Who We Are by Jonathan JK Morris | Make Your Own Book

(The link above opens a flash interface so it’s not the most speedy either).

The project in a nutshell is a portrait of the city of Swansea, Wales. It’s a snapshot of how the city exists today, presenting its peoples and citing its cultural contributions while promoting a little bit of Welshness. To be cost effective, the book is 7×7 inches (18cm) and just short of 60 images with the documentary being a mixture of portraits, landscapes and detail shots.

If you fancy purchasing one I’ll be honoured, if not I hope you liked the work in the preview anyway, thank you.

Nu: Fiction and stuff.

I made the cover of Parthian’s new book Nu: Fiction and stuff.

A book about fiction writing from some of Wales’ newest writing talent.

On a side note, Park Cameras in the UK is allowing pre-orders for the Fuji X100. Sweet.

Panasonic/Leica Random Images (Part 8)

leave a comment »

All these images are just a selection of images taken with the Panasonic Leica lens. I’ve focused using the centre focus point on the camera and all the images are comparisons using f1.4 and f2 unless stated otherwise. For the portraits I have focused on the eye and then attempted to re-centre the image.

UPDATE: A few people have been interested in the specular highlights the camera produces, here are also two images that reflect that.
