(EDIT: Deleted old blog post regarding write speeds. This is the latest information now.)
At the time, the Sandisk Extreme offered the best write speeds at 30/MBs. This was investigated by a DPreview/Flickr user (fastfiftyphoto) who has now bought another SD card, which offers much faster write times. He posted a new set of times here in this flickr discussion thread.
Single shot mode 1 RAW frame – A = 12.1s B = 8.4s C = 6.5s D = 2.7s
Single shot mode 3 RAW frames – A = 22.1s B = 13.4s C = 11.4s D = 5.9s
Bust mode (8 RAW frames) - A = 44.6s B = 29.8s C = 20.2s D =15.8
- A = Sandisk 8GB Class 4
- B = Trancsend 8B Class 6
- C = SanDisk Extreme 30MB/sec (SDHC) CLASS 10
- D= SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC UHS-I (8GB,45Mbps)
Just by looking at his results, he is getting more than a 50% improvement in write times (with the first 2 tests) over the next best card. How much do you need to pay for this performance? In the UK the card is being sold by Amazon for a measly £29. Sadly I have 2 class 6 SD cards (20MB/s), and I don’t really want to wait a mind numbing eight and a half seconds to write a single raw file to my card. That means I’ll cough up one when I actually get my X100.
While I’m at it, there is also this discussion going on which might be interesting.
